The Goethe University Frankfurt, the DRK Blood Transfusion Service Baden-Württemberg-Hessen and the pharmaceutical company medac have concluded a license agreement for the development of mesenchymal stromal cells for the treatment of graft-versus-host disease. The licence agreement has been signed via the university technology transfer Innovectis. This life-threatening complication often occurs after bone marrow transplantation in leukemia patients, when the external implanted cells are directed against the patient. Researchers at the Children’s Hospital of the Goethe University and the Blood Transfusion Service have succeeded in developing a standardized cell preparation and successfully curing several patients.
