This year, the Landesforschungspreis Baden-Württemberg for excellence in applied research goes to Andreas Trumpp from the German Cancer Research Centre (DKFZ) and the Heidelberg Institute for Stem Cell Technology and Experimental Medicine (HI-STEM gGmbH). Theresia Bauer, Minister of Science, Research and the Arts, presented the 100,000 euro award at a ceremony on 10th December 2018.

This year, Prof. Dr. Dr. med. Sabine Gabrysch has been awarded the prize for “mutige Wissenschaft”. The physician and epidemiologist has headed the Epidemiology and Biostatistics Section at the Heidelberg Institute for Global Health since 2014. With this prize for courageous science, the state of Baden-Württemberg honours excellent researchers at universities and non-university research institutions who have left the beaten track and who have pushed their research work forward with a great deal of courage and risk. The award is endowed with 30,000 euros and has been presented together with the Landesforschungspreis Baden-Württemberg on 10 December 2018 in the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart.
