The BioRN Cluster hosted on April 10th a round table discussion with Ms. Köchel and Ms. Krüger from the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labour and Housing of Baden-Württemberg (Cluster and Regional Politic Unit). The discussion was moderated by Dr. Friedrich Richter (BioRN Cluster) and joint by some members of the BioRN Network Executive Board and Cluster: Prof. Michael Boutros (German Cancer Research Center), Dr. André H.R. Domin (Technology Park Heidelberg), Prof. Stefan Meuer (Heidelberg University), Dr. Volker Stadler (PEPperPRINT GmbH), Thomas Prexl (Heidelberg Start-up partners) and Dr. Jörg Rauch (Technology Transfer Heidelberg).

The meeting was a good opportunity for an exchange and update on activities and cluster cooperation. An accent was put on the importance of filling the gap between research in academia and its application in the industry -especially for the life science field. Everybody agreed on the relevance of technology transfer offices, that should proactively scout within the research groups, Clusters and Technology Parks, that have the capability to facilitate this process, but also targeted policies which should endorse this not-yet natural process.

Ms. Köchel and Ms. Krüger had also the time for a quick lab tour in the premises of Affimed, a cutting-edge biopharmaceutical company focused on discovering and developing highly targeted cancer immunotherapies.

The round table discussion hosted by the BioRN Cluster was a good occasion to align its partners from university, technology park, private sector, and technology transfer, and close a joint agenda with the representatives of the Ministry of Economic Affairs of Baden-Württemberg.
