From virtual patients to biomedical knowledge graphs and back

March 6th-7th, 2025
09.00 – 17.00
biolabs Heidelberg or Online

Virtual patients and biomedical knowledge graphs are two powerful but disconnected technologies, developed by different experts with distinct objectives.

The VPE Team from BioMed X Institute in partnership with Sanofi invites you to unify these technologies and enable the automatic generation of virtual patients from biomedical knowledge graph.

What to expect

  • We will leverage the technologies of both worlds to bridge the divide and enable seamless generation of virtual patients from biomedical knowledge graphs.
  • Teams composed of people experienced in data science and machine learning, and computational biology will compete with the guidance of industry and research experts.
  • Connect with industry leaders, researchers, and like-minded innovators and engage with top experts in machine learning, computational biology, and biomedical AI.
  • Receive a formal certificate recognizing your participation and contribution—great for your professional portfolio and LinkedIn profile.
  • Learn directly from experts in computational biology, machine learning, and biomedical AI. Gain hands-on experience with state-of-the-art tools.
  • Stand out to potential employers, research institutions, and industry partners who are actively looking for talent in AI-driven biomedical research.
  • Outstanding contributions may lead to co-authored publications or further collaboration opportunities with academia and industry.
  • Your work will contribute to open-source projects, ensuring visibility and impact in the global research community.

As we have limited places, please fill out this application form by Friday February 28th if you are interested in participating in the Hackathon. Once we receive your registration, you will receive more information per email. Attendance is free of charge and attending in-person is preferred however an online option is available.

All outputs of the hackathon will be open-source and eventually published.

New approach for T-cell immunotherapy against malignant brain tumors

New approach for T-cell immunotherapy against malignant brain tumors

Researchers at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) and the University Medical Center Mannheim (UMM) have developed a promising cellular immunotherapy for the treatment of glioblastomas: They equipped T cells with a receptor that recognizes a protein of the brain tumors that is responsible for the dangerous stem cell properties. The therapeutic T cells directed […]

RNA Origami: Artificial Cytoskeletons to Build Synthetic Cells

Synthetic biologists from Heidelberg University create nanotubes folded from the natural RNA biomolecule With the long-term goal of creating living cells from non-living components, scientists in the field of synthetic biology work with RNA origami. This tool uses the multifunctionality of the natural RNA biomolecule to fold new building blocks, making protein synthesis superfluous. In […]
