Joint research in key technologies: NMI and KIT sign cooperation agreement

The NMI Natural and Medical Sciences Institute and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) have signed a groundbreaking cooperation agreement. This partnership combines the expertise of both institutions in the fields of production and characterization of materials for biological systems and energy storage as well as the application of statistical methods in medicine.

The collaboration will focus on several future-oriented fields of research, such as joint research on different forms of analytics, 3D bioprinting, environmentally friendly energy storage, measures against respiratory infections and AI-supported diagnosis of proteins. The NMI and KIT have already successfully carried out joint research projects in the past. This demonstrates their long-standing collaboration in the fields of biotechnology, medicine and materials science.

“We are excited about the many synergies that will result from the collaboration with KIT and look forward to jointly developing innovative solutions that will be of great benefit to both industry and society,” explains Prof. Dr. Katja Schenke-Layland, Director of the NMI.

“With the cooperation agreement, KIT and the NMI are intensifying their long-standing and trusting collaboration in the fields of biotechnology, medicine and materials science. The resulting innovations will strengthen the locations Baden-Württemberg and Germany,” says Prof. Dr. Thomas Hirth, Vice President International and Transfer at KIT.

As a research university in the Helmholtz Association, KIT is one of Germany’s leading scientific institutions in the engineering and natural sciences. With its interdisciplinary research and close collaboration with partners from industry, it offers an excellent basis for innovative cooperation. In particular, the clusters of excellence and the Helmholtz Institute Ulm for Electrochemical Energy Storage founded by KIT open up promising prospects for the further development of new technologies in partnership. The aim of the cooperation between the NMI and KIT is to work on significant scientific and technological advances that will benefit both sides.

About the KIT:

The Karlsruhe Institute of Technology is one of the most renowned technical universities in Germany. It combines strong basic research with application-oriented development in engineering and natural sciences. Thanks to its interdisciplinary orientation and close links with industry, KIT is a pioneer in the development of future-oriented technologies.
