IT security campaign of the four university hospitals in Baden-Württemberg receives award

Cyberattacks and analog attacks are a serious and ever-increasing threat to hospitals. In 2022, the Dr. Nope campaign at the four university hospitals in Baden-Württemberg demonstrated in a humorous way how employees can protect information and IT tools through their own personal behavior. The information security initiative has now been awarded the Security Prize at the sixth Baden-Württemberg Cyber Security Forum.

How do we handle information inside and outside our organizations? How do we protect information and IT tools through our own personal behavior? These and many other questions were the focus of an information campaign on information security in 2022, which was launched by the four university hospitals in Baden-Württemberg and has now been awarded the Security Prize at the sixth Baden-Württemberg Cyber Security Forum.

At the heart of the campaign was the fictional character Dr. Nope, “the” expert in Baden-Württemberg when it comes to information security. With his help, seven simple, easy-to-remember rules were developed: Things that employees should simply not do in order not to jeopardize information security – their own and that of their patients. The rules – e.g. rule no. 1 “No careless use of emails” – were communicated to employees in a variety of ways, e.g. with the help of posters, table displays, postcards, a landing page and an elaborate video. Tablet displays in the casinos, life-size Dr. Nope figures in the clinics, a hidden object picture, a “tree of decision” and various articles in the internal media rounded off the campaign.

“With the Security Award, we are recognizing lighthouse projects that protect our successful business location,” said Baden-Württemberg’s Minister of the Interior Thomas Strobl at the award ceremony. Together with Minister of Economic Affairs Dr. Nicole Hoffmeister-Kraut, he presented the award to a total of four winners. In addition to the four university hospitals in Baden-Württemberg, Mercedes-AMG GmbH, mindUp Web + Intelligence GmbH and the start-up Whitematics GmbH were also honored.

Synthetic biologists from Heidelberg University create nanotubes folded from the natural RNA biomolecule With the long-term goal of creating living cells from non-living components, scientists in the field of synthetic biology work with RNA origami. This tool uses the multifunctionality of the natural RNA biomolecule to fold new building blocks, making protein synthesis superfluous. In […]
