NXTGN Startup Factory successful in international ranking

New innovation platform with significant involvement from Heidelberg University is one of Europe’s most important start-up centers

In its first year of existence, the NXTGN Startup Factory has already become one of Europe’s most important start-up centers. As an innovation platform, the strategic alliance of Baden-Württemberg universities and private-sector partners, with significant participation from Heidelberg University, ranks 13th in a Financial Times ranking. This makes the alliance the best new German entrant in the “Europe’s Leading Start-up Hubs 2026” ranking, which includes a total of 180 start-up ecosystems. In the European technology segment, NXTGN ranks second, making it one of the leading platforms for deep tech innovations in Europe.

NXTGN Startup Factory erfolgreich in internationalem Ranking

Neue Innovationsplattform mit maßgeblicher Beteiligung der Universität Heidelberg gehört zu den bedeutendsten Gründungszentren Europas

Die NXTGN Startup Factory gehört im ersten Jahr ihres Bestehens bereits zu den wichtigsten Gründungszentren Europas. Als Innovationsplattform belegt der strategische Verbund baden-württembergischer Hochschulen und privatwirtschaftlicher Partner unter maßgeblicher Beteiligung der Universität Heidelberg in einem Ranking der Financial Times Platz 13. Damit ist der Verbund der beste deutsche Neueinsteiger in der Rangliste der „Europe’s Leading Start-up Hubs 2026“, in der insgesamt 180 Startup-Ökosysteme vertreten sind. Im europäischen Technologie-Segment liegt NXTGN auf Platz zwei und zählt damit zu den führenden Plattformen für Deep-Tech-Innovationen in Europa.

„Die hervorragende Platzierung im Ranking bestätigt den erfolgreichen strategischen Ansatz von NXTGN, gezielt forschungsnahe, technologieintensive Gründungen im Deep-Tech-Bereich zu unterstützen“, betont Prof. Dr. Katja Patzel-Mattern, Prorektorin für Innovation und Transfer an der Universität Heidelberg. Potentielle Gründerinnen und Gründer direkt an den beteiligten Hochschulen zu identifizieren und sie vor Ort intensiv zu betreuen, entfalte eine hohe Wirkung, so Dr. Raoul Haschke, Teamleiter der Transferagentur hei_INNOVATION, die an der Universität Heidelberg den Transfer von universitären Forschungsergebnissen in Wirtschaft und Gesellschaft befördert. 

Die NXTGN Startup Factory ist im Juli 2025 als eines von zehn „Leuchtturm“-Projekten des Bundes gestartet, um als zentrale Anlaufstelle technologiegetriebene Gründungen zu fördern. Dazu vernetzen sich die beteiligten Hochschulen mit dem industriellen Mittelstand und begleiten Startups in ihrer gesamten Entwicklung. Ziel von NXTGN ist es, den Transfer von Forschungsergebnissen in die Anwendung zu beschleunigen und neue Unternehmen in Zukunftsbranchen des Landes Baden-Württemberg zu schaffen. Auf Hochschulseite sind in die NXTGN Startup Factory neben der Universität Heidelberg das Karlsruher Institut für Technologie, die Universität Stuttgart, die Universität Ulm und die Hochschule der Medien in Stuttgart eingebunden.

Das Ranking der Financial Times gilt als einer der wichtigsten internationalen Benchmarks für Startup-Ökosysteme. Die jährlich veröffentlichte „Europe’s Leading Start-up Hubs“ benennt die bedeutendsten Gründungszentren in Europa. Für die Bewertung wurden Alumni, die an einem Programm des jeweiligen Hubs teilgenommen haben, sowie externe Expertinnen und Experten befragt. In das Ranking ist außerdem eine Analyse von erfolgreichen, aus einem Gründungszentrum hervorgegangenen Startups eingeflossen. Für Rang zwei der NXTGN Startup Factory im Technologie-Segment – eine von insgesamt acht Kategorien des Rankings – war unter anderem der Markterfolg der bislang vom Verbund betreuten Startups maßgeblich.
