Still among the world’s best: Heidelberg University Hospital to remain one of the top hospitals in 2026

According to the US magazine Newsweek, Heidelberg University Hospital (UKHD) remains one of the best hospitals in the world. For its “World’s Best Hospitals 2025” ranking, Newsweek teamed up with the data platform Statista to examine 2,500 hospitals in 32 countries. The UKHD came in 12th place worldwide. In Germany, the UKHD ranks second—only Berlin’s Charité performed better.

The ranking is based on performance indicators from the hospitals evaluated, assessments by healthcare experts, and feedback from patients. Compared to last year, the UKHD moved up two places in the international evaluation: in 2025, Heidelberg University Hospital was still in 14th place.

Also featured in Newsweek’s ranking of the best hospitals is Mannheim University Hospital, which has been affiliated with Heidelberg University Hospital since January 2026. Mannheim University Hospital ranked 30th in the 2026 Newsweek and Statista list for Germany, also climbing two places in this ranking.

Newsweek and Statista are publishing the 2026 ranking for the eighth time. Since the evaluation began, the UKHD has consistently managed to place among the best hospitals worldwide.
