bioRN News June 2025
Dear *|FNAME|* *|LNAME|*,

This month's newsletter is a long one: there has been a lot going on at bioRN in June, so find out about our activities and what we are looking forward to.

And the winners are: The EIT Health Catapult 9th Edition competition winners were announced on 17 June at HLTH Europe 2025 in Amsterdam. Congratulations to Custom Surgical, Cellectric Biosciences, and NimBio!
Arantxa Encinas López, startup Project Manager at bioRN, shared her excitement: “The EIT Health Catapult programme is a powerful example of what’s possible when Europe’s health innovation community comes together to accelerate bold ideas ...". More information about the award winners here.

Strengthening cross-cluster ties: bioRN Life Science Cluster was proud to partner with Niedersachsen.next BioRegioN for their annual Life Science Day at 3 June in Hannover. This year the event focused on Personalised Medicine – one of the signature research areas of the Rhine-Neckar region. A brimming yet cozy atmosphere, excellent presentations from applied academics to global industry partners (special thanks to NEC Bio Therapeutics GmbH, REACH Therapeutics i.Gr., and NMI Naturwissenschaftliches und Medizinisches Institut representing the bioRN region) and lively discussions at the bioRN booth made for a well-rounded day and a broad overview of the state of the art.

Innovation needs strong allies: At the Hauptstadtkongress, 25-27 June in Berlin, Julia Schaft had the chance to connect personally with Urs Voegeli, Managing Director J&J Innovative Medicine Germany. Once again, it became clear: if we want to unlock the great potential of our health region, we need close collaboration between science, industry, and politics. Pharmaceutical companies like J&J are key partners for the bioRN Life Science Cluster when it comes to translating excellent academic research into innovative therapies.

GeneNovate final on 25 June in Berlin: The GeneNovate community continues to grow – the training program has expanded to six locations (Berlin, Munich, Mainz, Heidelberg, Hannover, and Dresden) in 2025, with four more locations to follow next year. The German bioregions (bioRN Life Science Cluster, BioM Biotech Cluster Development GmbH, Berlin Partner für Wirtschaft und Technologie GmbH, biomindz, BioVation RLP, Niedersachsen.next, and biosaxony e. V.) under the umbrella of the Arbeitskreis der Bioregionen have been instrumental in developing the GeneNovate programme and strongly support Germany’s national Cell & Gene Therapy strategy.

Call for exhibitors for life-the biomedical convention, 4 February 2026: We are starting preparations for our annual conference, which will take place under a new name, ‘life the biomedical convention,’ on 4 February at the Heidelberg Congress Center.
We have around 30 exhibition stands available, so be quick and secure your place.  We are expecting around 500 participants again.
The conference theme will be announced shortly. But we can already reveal this much: we are expanding the programme with an additional track.
