bioRN News September 2025
Dear *|FNAME|* *|LNAME|*,

A successful and intense month is behind us, during which our life science ecosystem hosted three major networking events, each with a distinct focus. Around 500 representatives from academia, industry, and startups came together to shape the future of biotechnology at the
bioRN Life Science Week: 23-25 September, Heidelberg with the following events:
  1. Industry-Academia Day: An exclusive event for our pharmaceutical partners, showcasing outstanding research projects from academia and clinical practice. Early-stage projects in oncology, immunology, and neurosciences were presented in front of pharma representatives, fostering targeted matchmaking and new collaboration opportunities. This format once again highlighted the importance of knowledge transfer from academia to application.
  2. smartLabs Summit: A brand-new format in our portfolio: the smartLabs Summit put a spotlight on laboratory workflows, automation, digitization, and efficiency. 35 exhibitors presented pioneering technologies and solutions. High-level expert talks and panel discussions provided hands-on insights into smart data management and sustainable experimentation. The event attracted a highly interdisciplinary audience of lab managers, researchers, procurement specialists, and technology providers. The premiere was a great success and laid the foundation for a permanent platform to advance laboratory processes within the Rhine-Neckar region and beyond.
  3. Life Science Investors’ Day: The final day once again focused on innovation and financing, connecting startups with investors and industry. 25 European startups from biotech, medtech, and digital health presented their innovations towards the audience of 70 investors: This event provided a unique opportunity for selected startups to showcase their business ideas, establish new partnerships and find investment opportunities. We were happy to see several familiar names from our vibrant Life Science ecosystem on the list of pitching startups.
Parliamentary group meeting of the Green PartyIn the panel "From Research to Patients", moderated by Minister Petra Olschowski, Julia Schaft and Prof. Frank Winkler shared insights into how the integration of science and industry is successfully practiced in our ecosystem. Initiatives such as bioRN, the Health + Life Science Alliance Mannheim Heidelberg and the Forum Gesundheitsstandort Baden-Württemberg are important drivers for the development of the region as an innovation hub. read more
