Dear *|FNAME|* *|LNAME|*,
The temperature isn´t the only thing rising:
If there is one lesson the German biotech community keeps learning, it is this: scientific excellence alone does not create successful innovation ecosystems. Germany continues to produce world-class research, breakthrough technologies and exceptional talent. Yet the decisive question remains unchanged: how do great ideas become thriving companies, attract investment and ultimately reach patients?
The presentation of the EY German Biotechnology Report 2026 in Heidelberg captured the challenge with remarkable clarity. Germany does not have a science problem. It has an implementation problem. Scaling innovation -not creating it- has become the defining task for the country's biotech sector. More info and link to download the report here
One obvious answer is - capital !
With the newly established bioRN Investment Circle we bring investors, technology transfer offices, foundations and innovation leaders together to strengthen the connections that ambitious life science companies need to grow. Read more here .
And for startups ready to take the next step, the Life Science Investors' Day on 24 September offers exactly that opportunity. Applications close today - the final chance to secure a place on stage and connect directly with leading investors.
Growth, however, requires more than funding alone. Together with BioM and ESMT Berlin, bioRN is now opening another door for ambitious founders: through the Unified Hub Initiative, early-stage life science and health startups can apply for the Creative Destruction Lab (CDL) Berlin-Health, one of the world's leading venture-building programmes. 10 years of CATAPULT. Stronger than ever. This European mindset is equally reflected in EIT Health CATAPULT, now celebrating its 10th anniversary. As Project Lead, bioRN strongly emphasizes that the 30 semifinalists of this anniversary edition are proof that Europe's innovation pipeline is stronger than ever. Read more here.
Building tomorrow's biotech companies starts even earlier. GeneNovate® 2026 demonstrated how entrepreneurial thinking is becoming an increasingly natural part of scientific careers, empowering young researchers to transform discoveries into future innovations. Read the press news:
The most valuable ingredient of every successful innovation ecosystem, however, cannot be measured in funding rounds or publications: trust. At the latest bioRN C-Level Circle, bioRN´s "invite only event for" C,s and Executives in Life Sciences, Prof. Dr. Hanns-Peter Knaebel, CEO of Germany's largest university hospital following the Heidelberg-Mannheim merger, shared his perspective on leading transformation in healthcare. His message reflected a theme running through all of this month's stories: progress depends not only on excellent science, but equally on leadership, collaboration and the courage to rethink established structures.
